IOC New Year Hike, Maya-san, Kobe, 20.01.2008
This year's new year hike was actually not the first hiking event in 2008 but a great opportunity to meet old IOC friends
again and get to know new ones. 17 members and to-be members of he club gathered around 10am at Shin-Kobe station and then
followed Yoshimi up the mountains. We passed Nunobiki no Taki waterfall and climbed up to Nunobiki reservoir.
At the water reservoir dam Yoshimi decided to take a group picture to count how many
people started and how many arrived at the summit. Luckily the trail was easy to find, so nobody got lost.
Being prepared for cold weather on the summit everybody started to sweat at the steeper parts of the hiking up in the
beginning of the hike. But later it started to snow, cooling us down and covering the nice landscape in white. It was
not much in the beginning but enough for a little snowball fight Germany vs. New Zealand.
Reaching the summit (actually everybody made it there) we had a little lunch break in the huge pavilion up there not to get
too wet from the snow. However, it was too cold to have a long rest, so Yuri wrote a huge "IOC" into the snow, then we
took a group picture and started descending again.
Back in the valley the snow had turned to rain, so most people headed to Ojikoen station and took the train home to have a
hot bath after a really enjoyable start into the hiking year 2008.
