After arriving at the Lao border post, I acquired my on-the-spot visa without any problem, then jumped on a Sawngthaew (kind of south-east Asian minibus) and drove to Luang Nam Tha.

There I rented a nice room and a bike to ride to the sights around town. I visited a little waterfall, some temples on hills nd the new, tiny airport.

Back at my guesthouse I met two nice French with whom I had a couple of beers and a nice chat.

In the morning I took the bus to Pak Mong and from there a sawngthaew to Nong Khiaw, a sleepy town on the Nam Ou river.

I logged myself in a small hut on the hill with fantastic views over the river, hat a little hike to nearby caves and delicious Lao dinner.

Next morning, next bus. Now around 8 hours to Phonsavan, in the north-east of Laos, in a region heavily contaminated by unexploded bombs from the so-called Secret War in the 1970's.

At 6:15am our bus arrived at Vientiane, the Lao capital. I had breakfast in a nice cafe with Steve from London, Allen and MJ from Northern Ireland and used the WiFi internet provided there. After that, sightseeing with Steve, and in the evening I headed South by nightbus.

In the morning we arrived at Pakse, then jumped on a minibus to Ban Nakasang and then a boat to the island of Don Det, a really enjoyable, laid back place. Here I spontaneously decided to change my route again and headed south to Cambodia the next morning.
