European Youth Meeting of Taizé in Zagreb, 27.12.06 - 01.01.07

28.12.06 - Welcome to Zagreb

After one night in a gym we packed our luggage again and went to the German Welcome to get jobs and accomodation for the next days. While the others joined the choir I preferred to work in the stock as I already did during the Milano meeting 2005/06. It was nice to meet old friends there again, the stock team is like a big family. In the afternoon we had to leave and find our host families that were living in Dugo Selo, a small town about half an hour by train from Zagreb. People there had spent a lot of effort to prepare a wonderful and special Taizé meeting. Judith, Mattes and Guido got one family, Benedikt and me another one living in the same street. We were taken home by our hosts, could leave our luggage and have something to eat before we left for Zagreb center once more to go to the nice evening prayer, now with ten thousands of people. A fantastic feeling. Even though it was hardly possible to find somebody in the crowds just by chance I sat next to Éva from Hungary who I had got to know at the Budapest Taizé meeting 2001/02. That's Taizé! Back to Dugo Selo by crowded tram and train we just missed the animators meeting but organizer Jelena was nice enough to give us a short summary and some reading jobs for the next day before we could return to our nice host family.
